The Evolution of a Legend

The HD was introduced in February 1965, succeeding the EH model, which had been in production since 1963. It boasted a new, wider, and longer body, and was hailed as Holden's first genuine six-seater, providing enhanced passenger comfort, increased load capacity, and improved equipment features.

For the first time, disc brakes were available on a Holden, and the previous Hydramatic automatic transmission was upgraded to a Powerglide two-speed unit.

The HD also marked the launch of several safety advancements, including safety belt anchor plates, a padded instrument panel, childproof door locks, lift-up interior door handles, and a dished steering wheel.

All models came standard with a 149 cubic inch (100 hp) six-cylinder engine, except for the Premier, which featured a more powerful 179 cubic inch (115 hp) motor.

A total of 178,927 vehicles were manufactured until April 1966, when the HD was succeeded by the HR model.
